Vote Naenaein stan for Senate! Don't delay vote for NaeNae Kia Ora! (Hello)
Firstly I'm NaeNae and I am currently the Chairman of the Coalition for a Better Union (CBU). I am running for a spot in the Senate. During my time here I have served as a member of the Assembly for two terms before deciding to not run for re-election. I am fairly new to the union and very new to Union politics but I am really excited to get involved again and to help improve the Union!
If I am elected to the Senate, I hope to work with every Senator to help pass laws that are fit for purpose and do not disadvantage anyone.
- One major item I hope to get work started on is a review of the electoral system and the way elections are run. We need a system that is means tested and works! We need a system that improves engagement in the political process and gets more people involved.
- We can not continue to have the same people continuing to hold political office. So this is why I would like to also pass a law which would limit the number of consecutive terms an individual can serve in the Assembly, the Senate, as the WA Delegate, and as a Cabinet Member.
I would propose that for the following positions
- Assembly - 3 consecutive term limit and a mandatory 1 term break.
- Senate - 2 consecutive term limit and a mandatory 1 term break.
- Cabinet Minister - 2 consecutive term limit and a mandatory 1 term break.
- WA Delegate - 2 consecutive term limit and a mandatory 1 term break.
If I am lucky enough to be elected, I would seek the opinion of other Senators so that it is fit for purpose. These are both big pieces of work but I am willing to work on them and get things done!
If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask!

What do you mean by that the current system does not work? Could you please provide some examples and reasoning on why you think this?

In a theoretical sense, the one elected is the one best fit to serve. How would arbitrary term limits prevent over-involvement and promote new members to get involved. Sounds like an XY problem in my opinion. I notice that you have no limit on PM. I would propose that for the following positions
- Assembly - 3 consecutive term limit and a mandatory 1 term break.
- Senate - 2 consecutive term limit and a mandatory 1 term break.

v/r .k First Question: The current system we have makes it very hard for newcomers to Union politics to get involved and to win elections. I was told my a few members of the Union when I first decided to run for the Assembly that I wouldn't win because I am a newcomer and no one will vote for me. This is a debate that I think needs to be held in both chambers.
Second Question: Yes, in a theoretical sense the 'best' person for the job is elected. But in many cases that is not true. The term limits I have proposed are only a suggestion. If I am elected then I would want a debate to be held so that the proper term limits can be decided on if that is the wish of the Senate. In a theoretical sense, someone could never be voted out of the Senate and new ideas never come forward. I did not write any limits for the Prime Minister as there is already a two-term limit.
I hope you found this helpful.

I was told my a few members of the Union when I first decided to run for the Assembly that I wouldn't win because I am a newcomer and no one will vote for me. This is a debate that I think needs to be held in both chambers. Personally speaking, this sounds like a problem with any democratic system. If you're not well known enough via your platform or general "we know you exist" that is a factor into your chances. Sounds like a involvement/recruitment issue imo.
Second Question: Yes, in a theoretical sense the 'best' person for the job is elected. But in many cases that is not true. The term limits I have proposed are only a suggestion. Interesting on that last bit, I need to go read laws myself. What would stop someone from switching roles for a few months, or is that the intention?
I hope you found this helpful.
